Arc of love

Arc of love

Arc of love is a timeline; beginning with juvenile ideals and transitioning into a life long commitment and everlasting journey.

Cotton linter and recycled matt board are the materials for the paper pulp. The first batch of paper incorporated maximal daisy petals as pulp slurry inclusions. Whilst making each batch of paper, the daisies diminished. The sheets of paper graduated into a range of hues after adding luster and sparkle pigments resulting in subtle tones of warm white, pink, green, and red.

River melting (early spring at altitude)

River melting (early spring at altitude)

Installation studio is 12ft width x 30ft length.

Early spring in the mountains is re-created. Beside the simulated melting glacial river, handmade sheets of paper containing organic inclusions are propped on end to signal spring growth. At the far end of the studio is a framed series of clouds (etchings). These prints belong to a body of work titled Exempla (see the Prints page on header navigation).

Mockingbird

A vignette installation includes an audio recording of a mockingbird. This bird (and many others like it) lived at the Cite Universite campus residence in Paris, France. Recorded on a cell phone in early morning; the bird simulates urban sounds from the residence such as voices, ring tones, alarm clocks, and humand activity.

Click on the image and listen to the bird’s audio track (1 min 28 seconds).

Ocean (waves)

Ocean (waves)

Handmade paper, 12ft width x 30ft length.

Ocean waves roll in and white caps break at the shoreline, frothing and flowing onto a sandy beach.

The sheets of paper that create the beach are embedded with finely crushed sea shells.

Dusk and moonlight

Dusk and moonlight

Vermillion lake at night. This piece references memories of car rides with Baylee (my dog). When we couldn’t sleep, we would roll down the windows and take a midnight car ride along Vermillion lake road. The moonlight was especially reflective on the water during a clear sky.

The silhouette of the mountains and valley are illuminated and back lit by the dusk sky. This light is reflecting off the dark water.

Handmade papers were embedded with large glitter flakes to create reflective effects.

Rain cloud

Rain cloud

The last installation in this paper-based landscape series. This work became 3-dimensional and included a mobile.

A rock protruded from the corner and a stream cascades. Above the small pond, a rain cloud formed to release droplets. A raven and a magpie play and take flight.
